Foxton 3 – 2 Brampton

With a very strong wind blowing across the decent pitch at Foxton, controlling any ball in the air was problematic and in the first 45 minutes, the home side made a better fist of it. With good approach play and using the wind to cross from the right they gave Brampton some anxious moments. With reserve keeper Connor Campbell pulling off a couple of good saves and a bit of wayward shooting by the home side it was level until the 45th minute when a cross from the left this time was headed into his own goal by central defender Cavan King.

The second half favoured the visitors who soon equalised after several promising attacks which had led to near misses from hard working Gareth Owens and Sam Miles. Alex Shepherd, who unusually was not at his best, gathered the ball on the edge of the box and scored with a good shot just inside the post which gave the Foxton keeper little chance and levelled the scores.

The game became increasingly scrappy and a misjudged pass from midfield put through a Foxton striker who had the keeper to beat to make it 2-1 to the home side. It was 3-1 just a few minutes later when Brampton defender Aaron Wootton pushed a Foxton player in the back. A penalty was awarded and was put away.

With ten minutes to go Brampton themselves were awarded a penalty for a foul close to the goal line which was fired home decisively by Matt Gearing.

Final result 3-2 to Foxton.

Manager Wayne Ambler delivered some home truths in the dressing room about the teams’ performance and awarded team Man of the Match to keeper Connor Campbell.
